Objective:

The CIRCU-AL proposal is a strategic project of Collaborative Fundamental Research, involving four research groups from three agents belonging to the Basque Science and Technology Network: the Public University of the Basque Country UPV-EHU, with the participation of the departments of Mechanical Engineering (leader of the proposal) and Mining and Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, TECNALIA and BCAM. The Basque Country has defined a Circular Economy Strategy with three strategic objectives to be achieved by 2030; to increase material productivity by 30%, to increase the rate of circular material use by 30% and to reduce the rate of waste generation per unit of GDP by 30%. These objectives are in line with the priorities of the European Commission in its determined drive for the circular economy and with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In this context, the Basque Country is facing a series of challenges that must be addressed, establishing clear and forward-looking objectives that will enable the Basque Country to position itself as a benchmark in the transition to a circular economy.
