Internship programme

BCAM brings the opportunity for excellent international students to join a world-class interdisciplinary research center in Bilbao, Spain. BCAM is a build-up of researchers with diverse mathematical and applied backgrounds, working on theory, modelling, analysis, optimization/control, numerical solution and computer simulation of dynamical systems, motivated by real-world problems in areas like control of waves, aerodynamics, communication networks, image and video processing, biology/medicine, finance, etc. For further information about BCAM scientific activities, see BCAM Research Lines.

BCAM is looking for: motivated Undergraduate, Master and PhD students in mathematics and related areas.

We welcome applications for the internship positions, which may take a form of:

Summer or one-semester stay
Master thesis
Industrial project
Part of Ph.D. thesis

Selected applicants will be responsible for learning, suggesting and applying ideas under the supervision of BCAM researchers and according to an established plan, with the objective to successfully solve the issues stated in the Internship position announcement and prepare the expected deliverables.

Please note that at BCAM we offer two kinds of internship:

The group leader of the researcher line can request an internship for a selected candidate. For that option, please contact the supervisor of the research line that you are interested in doing the internship. You can find their contact data on BCAM Research lines.
The internships that are published as follows. Please, apply by filling the form below and select the position you are interested in. We strongly recommend to apply at least three months before your preferred starting date. In case you do not require funding from BCAM, please contact directly the potential supervisor.

Visiting Fellows

Every year BCAM offers research opportunities for outstanding researchers in Mathematics and related areas from all over the world (at both early stage and experienced levels) for short and long-term visits, through the Visiting Fellow programme. The objective of the Visiting Fellow programme is to attract excellent researchers with a PhD degree or strong industrial experience and the final goals of the program are:

To let BCAM researchers consolidate research collaborations, and thus to reinforce existing research lines and promote synergies.
To bring and spread technical knowledge in BCAM, e.g., through working groups activities.
To explore the connection between pure/applied mathematics and new research topics in collaboration with the existing research lines.
To give more international visibility to BCAM.
Strengthen contacts within the international scientific community.

Therefore, researchers in any branch of mathematics and related areas are invited to apply if they would like to spend a minimum period of two months and a maximum of six months. Exceptionally, the minimum period of the stay could be one month for senior researches. During the visit, BCAM provides a stimulating environment to foster research activities in collaboration with BCAM researchers and networking with other researcher centers.

We welcome applications from Visiting Fellows with joint research interests with members of our Research Lines as well as researchers with complementary expertise. Applications from women are strongly encouraged.

Duration: The duration of the Visiting Fellowship is normally between 1 and 6 months. The Visiting Fellows Programme involves a contract between BCAM and the researcher or an agreement with the researcher’s institution. The salary corresponding to this contract is intended to cover the costs of accommodation, local travel, travels, food and/or honorarium
