Date: Wed, May 22 2019

Hour: 11:45 - 14:00

Location: "Salón de Grados" in Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Basque Country

Speakers: Jean-François Quint and Marta Sanz-Solé

We are glad to announce the program for the 6th Math Colloquium BCAM-UPV/EHU that will take place on Wednesday, May 22nd, at "Salón de Grados" in Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Basque Country.

PROGRAM:
11:45-12:45 Jean-François Quint (Institut de Mathematiques de Bordeaux

Spectral gap in group theory: Several occurrences and applications of spectral gap phenomena in some equidistribution questions which are related to asymptotic group theory will be presented.

13:00-14:00 Marta Sanz-Solé (Universidad de Barcelona and BSGMath)
Stochastic partial differential equations, a gentle introduction with challenging problems: Randomness and uncertainty are among the most shared features in observations of real world phenomena. An important part of models for random evolutions uses stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) as mathematical language. Building a theory of SPDEs and studying these objects is nowadays a vibrant and exciting research area. This talk will be an introduction to the subject addressed to non-experts. In the first part, I will present the basics of the theory and in the second part, I will address some intriguing questions related to the random walking of the trajectories.
