David Perez Garcia (UCM & ICMAT, Madrid, Spain)
January 11th-12th, 10:00 am and 15:00, Aula Seminario dept. Matematicas

ABSTRACT
This course will focus on the role that functional inequalities, like Poincaré or log-Sobolev, play in some important problems associated to quantum computing.
The course is aimed both at researchers already working in quantum computing, as well as at mathematicians interested in mathematical analysis.
No prior knowledge on quantum computing or functional inequalities will be assumed.

STRUCTURE:
- All you need to know about quantum mechanics for quantum computing.
- A crash course on tensor networks.
- Models of quantum computation: circuits, measurement-based, adiabatic, variational, topological.
- Some problems of interest associated to those models and their relation to functional inequalities: an overview
- An illustrative workout example: life-time of quantum memories.

Organizers:

This activity is within the framework of IKUR-Quantum Technologies, initiated by BCAM, DIPC and the mathematics department of UPV-EHU.

Confirmed speakers:

Speaker: David Perez Garcia (UCM & ICMAT, Madrid, Spain)

David Pérez-García is a Full Professor of Mathematical Analysis at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), serving as the director of the "Mathematics and Quantum Information" research group (www.mathqi.es). He is also affiliated with the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ICMAT, Spain).
Pérez-García boasts an impressive track record, securing 15 funded projects, including a Consolidator grant from the European Research Council. Recognized for his contributions, he has received awards such as the RAC-Endesa, Miguel Catalán, Fundación Banco Sabadell for Science and Technology, and the Ramón y Cajal Medal from the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences.
A pioneer in interdisciplinary research, Pérez-García has connected quantum information with various mathematical domains, exploring links between quantum non-locality and functional analysis, tensor networks, topological order, and the intersection of computability and quantum matter.
