ACT.AI European project kicks off
- The project aims to develop an innovative toolset for controlling bias in AI technology and it’s PI is Prof. Novi Quadrianto (BCAM – University of Sussex)
- ACT.AI is part of BCAM Severo Ochoa Strategic Lab on Trustworthy Machine Learning, the Joint Research Lab between University of Sussex
- This project is a Proof of Concept project of the ERC-PoC call which seeks to enable ERC-funded ideas to progress along the path of pioneering research towards innovation
Prof. Novi Quadrianto (BCAM – University of Sussex) is the PI of an ERC Proof of Concept (PoC) project named ACT.AI.
The project kicked off on June 1st 2024.
ACT.AI aims to address bias in Artificial Intelligence (AI) models through statistical matching techniques. As AI continues to permeate industries such as finance, healthcare, and education, concerns have grown regarding the fairness of AI decisions and their compliance with regulations. The proposed EU AI Act mandates that AI applications in high-risk sectors detect and mitigate discrimination, posing a challenge for startups lacking resources and expertise.
Quadrianto’s project seeks to bridge this gap by offering a versatile toolkit that can be seamlessly integrated into any AI workflow. It promises to monitor and enhance fairness across various data types and contexts, including tabular, image, and text data, and supports different classification and regression tasks. Notably, it can handle datasets from different domains, including out-of-distribution data, and accommodate varying numbers of variables or features.
The project will prioritize input from stakeholders in financial services and healthcare to ensure the tool's practicality and effectiveness in real-world applications. With Novi Quadrianto at the helm, ACT.AI project is poised to advance the field of AI ethics and compliance, fostering fairer AI technologies for the future.
ACT.AI is part of BCAM Severo Ochoa Strategic Lab on Trustworthy Machine Learning, the joint lab between University of Sussex and BCAM, which seeks to reinforce the internationalisation of BCAM through collaboration with international researchers of recognised prestige in key research areas. This lab is led by Prof. Novi Quadrianto and co-lead by José Antonio Lozano, Scientific Director of the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics.
This project is a Proof of Concept project of the ERC-PoC call which seeks to enable ERC-funded ideas to progress along the path of pioneering research towards innovation.
ACT. AI is funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe Programme - Grant Agreement 101123000 – Act.AI.
