BCAM organizes several special events to celebrate its 10th anniversary
- The commemoration of the center's 10-year journey will include various seminars given by internationally renowned researchers
The Basque Centre for Applied Mathematics - BCAM, which began its activity in September 2008, is celebrating its tenth anniversary and has organised several scientific and disseminative activities to commemorate its 10-year journey dedicated to research and knowledge transfer on applied mathematics.
The first of these events will be a scientific seminar that will take place on October 2nd at 15:30, and will be given by Professor Jan Nordström of the Department of Mathematics at Linköping University (Sweden). Under the title Energy Stable Boundary Conditions for the Nonlinean Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations the seminar will deal with the analysis of the nonlinear incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and will show that mathematical analysis is the key to success in computational mathematics, since once that mathematical problem is well known, the discrete approximation immediately follows.
A second seminar will take place on November 6th entitled Holonomic Constraints and Statistical Mechanics. It will be given by Giovanni Ciccotti, professor of the Department of Physics at the University of La Sapienza (Italy).
The special program of the anniversary will also include a colloquium organised in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) to be held on November 14th at the campus located in Leioa. The speakers will be two internationally renowned researchers: Bernd Sturmfels, professor of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science at the University of California at Berkeley (USA) and director of the Max Plank Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences (Germany), and Rafael Montenegro, professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) and director of the University Institute of Intelligent Systems and Numerical Applications in Engineering (SIANI).
During the next few months BCAM will announce more activities of a disseminative and scientific nature that will be part of the celebration of its tenth anniversary on its website and social media channels.
