BCAM participates in the scientific dissemination festival Pint of Science

  • The center collaborates as a sponsor of the event and some of its researchers and PhD students will offer a talk on mathematics and artificial intelligence

The Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM collaborates once again with Pint of Science and will sponsor the next edition of this science festival in Bilbao, which will take place from 20 to 22 May 2019.

Pint of Science is a free, non-profit event that is held simultaneously in more than 400 cities and whose purpose is to bring science closer to society by holding informative talks aimed at the general public in the relaxed and pleasant atmosphere of a bar. During the festival, scientists from universities and representative research centres in each city show what they do, explain their scientific work and why research is so important.

In Bilbao, the next edition will feature 11 talks on topics as diverse as alternative medicine, nanoscience, mathematics and neuroscience. One of them, entitled "Del diskette al coche autónomo. Progress and Threats of Artificial Intelligence" will be given by several PhD students and researchers from BCAM's Machine Learning group. Amaia Abanda (BCAM - Predoc Severo Ochoa 2016), Iker Beñarán (Predoc Severo Ochoa 2016), Ander Carreño (BCAM-UPV/EHU) and Aritz Pérez (BCAM) will analyse how Artificial Intelligence is changing our lives in areas such as politics, marketing, logistics and health on Wednesday 22 May, from 19:00 in the bar Dock located at nº3 on Paseo de Uribitarte.

The 2019 edition of Pint of Science Bilbao is sponsored by Achucarro, BCMateriales, Biofísika, BCAM and Vadillo Asesores, and the full programme of activities is now available on their website: pintofscience.es/events/bilbao
