Bcam will collaborate with Neiker to develop mathematical models applicable to the primary sector.

Both institutions have signed an agreement focused on mathematical research related to the agro-livestock, forestry and natural resource conservation sectors.

The Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM and the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development - Neiker have reached an agreement that focuses on achieving new applied mathematical models and algorithms. These models will allow the agricultural, livestock and forestry sectors to optimise their production processes with special emphasis on: the conservation of natural resources and the maintenance of plant, forestry and animal health. Due to the complexity of these objectives, since multiple variables and cases have to be taken into account, it has been necessary to formulate a collaborative work between both centres that will answer to the new challenges currently faced by the sector.

Neiker, since its foundation in 1851, its aim has been to develop research and studies in the fields of agricultural, aquatic and environmental sciences and natural resources, in order to later transfer its findings to local companies. In that sense, BCAM researchers, who are highly qualified and have experience in the development of mathematical models applicable to different natural environments, will turn their knowledge into the collaboration with Neiker. These activities are focused on the development of mathematical models for animal, plant, forest and environmental research, with special interest in:

- Plant production and health

- Forest production and health

- Animal production and health

- Conservation of Natural Resources.

This agreement, which is in addition to those already signed by BCAM with other institutes in the territory, is a further step in the consolidation of a greater network of collaborative work between the several centres located in the Basque Autonomous Community.

ABOUT NEIKER

The Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development - Neiker, began its activity in 1851. It is distinguished for being one of the few public organizations with such a wide trajectory. It is a public entity that, in line with the objectives established by the Department of Economic Development and Infrastructures of the Basque Government, focuses on: supporting, promoting and contributing to the competitive improvement of the Basque agro-food sector and to the conservation of the environment, generating scientific knowledge and transferable solutions that contribute to wealth and well-being in the Basque Country, with committed and motivated people.

The Institute carries out different research projects in order to seek technological development for innovation in the agro-food and environmental fields.
