New edition of the Mathematical Modelling Consultancy service carried out in collaboration with DFB

  • This year three companies have been selected to receive the AI and CFD service

Basque Center for Applied Mathematics – BCAM through the Knowledge Transfer Unit (KTU), in collaboration with Beaz, the public company of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia that offers support to companies and entrepreneurs, is going to carry out for the third year the mathematical modelling consultancy service.

The aim of this initiative is to contribute to the improvement of the business capacity to carry out R&D&I projects in SMEs and local start-ups and to promote applied research in the business fabric through the transfer of knowledge between research agents.

The service offers participating SMEs and startups advice and support based on the specialities they need to address in their Data Science and Artificial Intelligence projects, where advice is offered on prediction problems, resource optimisation and knowledge-based AI algorithms for applications in the field of health, rapid and accurate imaging of the earth's subsoil (geothermal energy and underground hydrogen storage), and fluid dynamic modelling and simulation, where help is offered in Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFD) for marine energy, hydrogen generation and distribution, combustion (emissions, equipment optimisation, impact of alternative fuels such as biomass and hydrogen), and Mathematical Biology, working on forecasting the transmission of infectious diseases, especially vector-borne diseases, and on optimal control approaches applied to infectious diseases of public health concern, including vector control and vaccination.

On the one hand, Aquadat, a company that generates water data and transforms it into information and solutions for efficient water management for industry, water operators and agricultural operators, will receive advice on Data Science and AI.

On the other hand, the companies that will receive advice in fluid dynamic modelling are Saitec, whose main activity is related to the development of transport infrastructure projects (railways, roads), water engineering, architecture, urban planning, environment, industry and energy; and Ventijet, a respiratory therapy medical device manufacturer.

This year the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence team will be formed by  Aritz Pérez and Raúl Coterillo. The Fluidodynamic Modelling and Simulation team is made up of Vincenzo Nava and Imanol García de Beristain.

About the KTU

The mathematical modelling consultancy is being carried out by members of BCAM's Knowledge Transfer Unit (KTU), who have extensive experience in the fields of Data Science and CFD.  This platform aims to develop mathematical solutions to scientific challenges based on real-life applications and to collaborate with industry to boost fundamental research and knowledge transfer to the business community.
