Prof. Javier Fernández de Bobadilla will lecture at the 40th anniversary of the CIRM
The researcher and group leader currently holds the Jean-Morley Chair at the Centre International de Recontres Mathématiques (CIRM)
Prof. Javier Fernández de Bobadilla, leader of the Singularity Theory and Algebraic Geometry group at BCAM, will be one of the speakers on 14 October at the scientific conferences of the Centre International de Recontres Mathématiques (CIRM) in Luminy (Marseille) at the event celebrating its 40th anniversary. The event will feature four scientific conferences, as well as several exhibitions and two competitions in the graphic and artistic fields.
The scientific lectures will be given by François Charles (Orsay), Anne-Laure Dalibar (Sorbonne), Kerrie Mengersen (Queensland) and Javier Fernández de Bobadilla (BCAM-Ikerbasque).
The programme will continue with the exhibition Art et Singularités, conversations croisées by the artist Silvie Pic, and the exhibition Les audaces by Sophie Germain (Ed. Petit à petit) and the exhibition Regards sur les mathématiques, itinéraires méditerranéens. Among other activities, there will be a graphic competition for the design of a T-shirt commemorating the centre's 40th anniversary and an artistic competition for the creation of a tessellation, based on Penrose's tessellations, for the terrace of the CIRM's restaurant area.
About Prof. Javier Fernández de Bobadilla
Prof. Javier Fernández de Bobadilla, is the leader of the Singularity Theory and Algebraic Geometry group at the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM and research professor at Ikerbasque since 2015, has a PhD in Mathematics since 2001 and did his doctorate at the University of Nijmgen (The Netherlands). His research experience has been developed at the University of Nijmengen, the University of Utrecht, the UNED and the CSIC previously. He is a member of the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton), and has been visiting professor at the RENYI Institute of Mathematics (Hungary) and IMPA (Brazil). During the semester from July to December 2021, the BCAM researcher and Ikerbasque research professor is holding the Jean-Morley Chair and organise the Singularity Theory from Modern Perspectives programme together with Prof. Anne Pichon.
