Information of interest

Inmaculada Arostegui received the B.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU, the Master of Health Science in Biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins University at Baltimore, Maryland, and the Ph.D.  in Science, Mathematics specialty, from the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU.
She is a Full Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics and Operational Research at the School of Science and Technology and the team leader of the "Biostatistics Research Group". Her main research interest is focused on statistical methodology in biomedical and experimental research. Specific topics of interest are the development and validation of prediction models, modelling patient reported outcomes (such as health status, health related quality of life, functional dependence, satisfaction, ...), longitudinal data analysis and risk stratification. She works in Clinical Epidemiology in collaboration with the Clinical Research Unit of the Galdakao-Usansolo University Hospital and also in Toxicology, Genetics and Ecology in collaboration with several research groups at the School of Science and Technology. She has published over 75 scientific articles in experimental and medical research fields.

  • Impact of outdoor air pollution on severity and mortality in COVID-19 pneumonia

Bronte Moreno, O.; García, F.Autoridad BCAM; Lee, D.J.Autoridad BCAM; Urrutia Landa, I.; Uranga Echeverria, A.; Nieves Ermecheo, M.; Martínez-Minaya, J.Autoridad BCAM; Quintana, J.M.; Arostegui, I.Autoridad BCAM; Zalacain Jorge, R.; Ruiz Iturriaga, L.A.; Serrano Fernández, L.; Menéndez Villanueva, R.; Méndez Ocaña, R.; Torres Marti, A.; Cillóniz, C.; España Yandiola, P.P. (2023-06)
The relationship between exposure to air pollution and the severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia and other outcomes is poorly understood. Beyond age and comorbidity, risk factors for adverse outcomes ...
  • Variable selection with LASSO regression for complex survey data

    Iparragirre, A.; Lumely, T.; Barrio, I.Autoridad BCAM; Arostegui, I.Autoridad BCAM (2023)
Variable selection is an important step to end up with good prediction models. LASSO regression models are one of the most commonly used methods for this purpose, for which cross-validation is the most widely applied ...
  • Estimation of cut-off points under complex-sampling design data

    Iparragirre, A.; Barrio, I.Autoridad BCAM; Aramendi, J.; Arostegui, I.Autoridad BCAM (2022)
In the context of logistic regression models, a cut-off point is usually selected to dichotomize the estimated predicted probabilities based on the model. The techniques proposed to estimate optimal cut-off points in the ...
  • Impacto cuantitativo de la contaminación en la probabilidad de muerte por neumonía por SARS-CoV-2

Bronte Moreno, O.; Urrutia Landa, I.; Martínez-Minaya, J.Autoridad BCAM; García, F.Autoridad BCAM; Lee, D.J.Autoridad BCAM; Jódar Samper, A.; García Hontoria, P.; Arostegui, I.Autoridad BCAM; Artaraz Ereño, A.; Menéndez Villanueva, R.; Méndez Ocaña, R.; Torres Marti, A.; Cillóniz, C.; Zalacain Jorge, R.; Ruiz Iturriaga, L.A.; Serrano Fernández, L.; España Yandiola, P.P. (2021-11)

Bronte Moreno, O.; Urrutia Landa, I.; García, F.Autoridad BCAM; Martínez-Minaya, J.Autoridad BCAM; Uranga Echeverria, A.; Lee, D.J.Autoridad BCAM; García Hontoria, P.; Jódar Samper, A.; Arostegui, I.Autoridad BCAM; Menéndez Villanueva, R.; Méndez Ocaña, R.; Torres Marti, A.; Cillóniz, C.; Zalacain Jorge, R.; Ruiz Aldaiturriaga, L.A.; Serrano Fernández, L.; España Yandiola, P.P. (2021-11)
Introducción La contaminación del aire exterior se ha relacionado con mayor gravedad de las infecciones respiratorias. Por tanto, su inclusión en algoritmos predictivos podrían añadir información para pronosticar la ...
  • COPD classification models and mortality prediction capacity

    Aramburu, A.; Arostegui, I.Autoridad BCAM; Moraza, J.; Barrio, I.Autoridad BCAM; Aburto, M.; García-Loizaga, A.; Uranga, A.Autoridad BCAM; Zabala, T.; Quintana, J.M.; Esteban, C. (2019)
Our aim was to assess the impact of comorbidities on existing COPD prognosis scores. Patients and methods: A total of 543 patients with COPD (FEV1 < 80% and FEV1/ FVC <70%) were included between January 2003 and January ...
  • Predictors of one and two years’ mortality in patients with colon cancer: a prospective cohort study
