BCAM and Axa Research Fund hosted the workshop "Artificial Intelligence for the Fight Against COVID-19”
The workshop took place at the Bizkaia Aretoa in Bilbao on 6, 7 and 8 April
The Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM organised the workshop "Artificial Intelligence for the fight against COVID-19" on 6, 7 and 8 April at the Bizkaia Aretoa in Bilbao in collaboration with AXA Research Fund and the Basque Government. During this global pandemic, the management of data analyst teams has been different in various cities and countries around the world. "Artificial Intelligence for the Fight Against COVID-19" was the framework to welcome and share the different visions and management of it.
The workshop has been organized as one of the main dissemination activities of the project “Early prognosis of COVID-19 infections via machine learning” funded by AXA Research Fund under the Exceptional Flash Call “Mitigating risk in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic” as well as project “Mathematical Modelling Applied to Health”, funded Project by the Basque Government.
The event counted with the main collaboration of the keynote speakers, Prof. Concha Bielza from the Artificial Intelligence department of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Prof. Laure Wynants from the University of Maastricht (The Netherlands), Prof. Mihaela van der Schaar from the University of Cambridge (UK), and Prof. Emilie Chouzenoux from the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology - INRIA Paris - Saclay (France).
The workshop brought together multiple international researchers working on Artificial Intelligence applications for the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as representatives from the healthcare system, including clinicians, biomedical researchers and healthcare facility managers.
Throughout the three days, the main topic was about the management and training of data during the COVID-19 pandemic in different countries such as Colombia, The Netherlands and France and other cities in Spain such as Bilbao and Valencia. One of the highlights during the workshop, was the need that has arisen after the pandemic to have the figure of Chief Data Officer in the different organisations.
