The State Research Agency awards a Thematic Network to the Network of Algebraic Geometry and Singularities (RGAS)
The network, coordinated by BCAM researcher Javier Fernández de Bobadilla, is made up of 13 Algebraic Geometry and Singularities groups from different universities and research centres in Spain
The Algebraic Geometry and Singularities Network (RGAS), RED2022-134105-T, has been awarded the Thematic Research Networks grant by the State Research Agency, within the framework of the State Programme to Promote Scientific-Technical Research and its Transfer, of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2021-2023.
The RGAS network is made up of 13 nodes in which Algebraic Geometry and Singularity Theory are approached from different points of view and with very different tools which, in turn, are complementary. The main objectives of the network are to strengthen our areas of specialization and to expand them in the most relevant directions of current research, to maintain and improve our international presence. In addition to taking advantage of the opportunities of the internal synergies that the network facilitates to generate international collaborations to maintain a first-class international research and training environment.
Among the actions carried out to achieve its main objectives are the seminars, the RGAS Schools and the annual meetings of the network. The last VII RGAS meeting took place at the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM in January 2023. The annual meeting brings together the entire Algebraic Geometry and Singularities community in a plenary session. "This meeting is an update on results, an opportunity to meet new members of the community, and above all a space in which to exchange ideas, opinions and reflections with a view to the future evolution of our line of research", explains Prof. Javier Fernández de Bobadilla.
Training actions are also part of the network's planning. They are aimed at young and senior researchers and are intended to help the scientific community keep up to date with the latest international developments.
The funding provided by the Ministry of Science and Innovation through the network has a very positive impact on the development of the network in Algebraic Geometry and Singularities. It is a very competitive and non-regular call for proposals, and this makes it difficult to plan activities in the long term, backed by a quiet budget.
Among the Spanish universities and research centres that make up this network are the following: Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM), Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) - Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas (ICMAT), Universidad de Barcelona (UB), Universidad de Sevilla (USE), Universidad Jaume I (UJI), Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB), Universidad de La Laguna (ULL), Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya (UPC), Universidad de Salamanca (USAL) and Universidad de Valencia (UV).
