Lekua: "Sala Aketxe" at Sede Building at UPV/EHU in Leioa.

Hizlariak: Jose Seadeis a distinguished professor at the Instituto de Matemáticas of
Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He obtained his master´s and Ph. D. degrees at the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) and he works at UNAM since 1980. Amongst the many distinctions he has received are the Ferran Sunyer I Balaguer prizes in 2005 and 2012, and the Solomon Lefschetz Medal 2021, awarded by the Mathematical Council of the Americas. He was director of UNAM´s Instituto de Matemáticas for eight years, till last April 2022, President of the Mexican Mathematical Society in 1986-1988, and director of a France´s CNRS International Research Laboratory in Mexico for five year till last April. He is Vice-President of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and Elected President of this Academy for the period 2023-2026. His main areas of research are singularity theory and dynamical systems, and he has also done significant contributions in geometry, topology and analysis. His work is well-known internationally, having received more than 1000 citations by more than 250 authors from all over the world.

Maria Jesus Esteban is a CNRS Director of Research at the Center of Research of Mathematics and Decision of the University of Paris. She obtained her degree in UPV/EHU and her Ph.D. and Doctorat d'Etat at the University Pierre and Marie Curie of Paris. She has received many prizes and distinctions, like the appointment Doctor Honoris Causa by the UPV/EHU in 2017, the Blaise Pascal Medal of the European Academy of Sciences, the Jacques-Louis Lions Prize (French Academy of Sciences) or the SIAM Prize for distinguished service to the Profession. She has been speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians, European Congress of Mathematics and the International Congress of Mathematics Physics. She is a corresponding member abroad of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, a foreign member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences, honorary member of the London Mathematical Society and Royal Spanish Mathematical Society, and a member of Jakiunde, Basque Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. She has served to the community in crucial an innumerable management and evaluation tasks, out of which it should be singled out her service as a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Oberwolfach Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut, President of ICIAM, Chair for the ERC Advanced Grants and as a Chair of BCAM Scientific Comittee (which has impacted so positively our local mathematical community). She works in analysis, specially in non-linear partial differential equations, where she is very recognized for her significant contributions.

We are glad to announce that the 13th Math Colloquium BCAM-UPV/EHU will take place on Wednesday, November 16, at 11:45 (CET) at "Sala Aketxe" at Sede Building at UPV/EHU in Leioa.

Lunch will be offered at the end

11:45-12:45 | Jose Seade: Invariants of flows on singular spaces
Flows appear in most areas of science. When the ambient space is smooth, these can be defined by the solutions of first order differential equations, or by the integral lines of vector fields, or as actions of the real numbers on the space in question. A cornerstone when studying flows are its stationary points; these correspond to constant solutions of the corresponding differential equation, or to zeros of the vector field. And a basic invariant of such points is the local Poincar-Hopf index. The literature about this index and its generalizations is vast. We will give an introduction to this topic and finally look at the case where the ambient space is no longer smooth but an analytic singular variety, as for instance an orbifold.

13:00-14:00 | Maria Jesus Esteban: Spectral results and open problems for Dirac-
Coulomb operators with general charge distributions

The Dirac operator is the main operator used in relativistic Quantum Mechanics. Its structure makes it more intricate to use and analyse than the non-relativistic Schredinger operator. In this talk I will present old and new results concerning the self-adjointness, domains of definition and variational characterization for Dirac- Coulomb operators with very general charge distributions. These operators are very important in the study of
heavy atoms and molecules. Open problems and new directions will be also presented at the end of the talk.
