Have you ever observed the complexity in the movement and behavior of pedestrian crowds? Sometimes, these behaviors are inherently interesting and merit study for this reason alone. In other scenarios, meticulous research is required due to the danger of disasters, similar to those reported in the news concerning large-scale events. Additionally, it remains an open question how these behaviors may influence pathogen transmission. The presentation will unveil the state of the art in research within the field known as pedestrian dynamics, focusing particularly on the physical and mathematical methods used for simulating such dynamics. Furthermore, it will introduce the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) along with its different research areas and existing projects that could be of interest for internships as well as undergraduate and master's thesis work. Lastly, the presentation will showcase how we are modelling pathogen diffusion coupled with pedestrian dynamics simulation.
