Daniel Eceizabarrena, first National End of Career Award in the branch of sciences

• The BCAM PhD student has obtained the first place in mathematics in these awards given to students who have completed a university degree with excellence

The National End-of-Career Awards are the most prestigious official awards given annually by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training to those students who have completed their university studies with excellence. The holders of these awards are recognized not only as the best students of their degree, but also as the best students of the country in the following branches of knowledge: sciences, health sciences, arts and humanities, social and legal sciences or engineering and architecture.

BCAM doctoral student Daniel Eceizabarrena has won one of the 9 first prizes in the science branch of the last call for these awards, aimed at students who completed their university studies between 2014 and 2015. Therefore, he has become the graduate in Mathematics with the highest score thanks to the average grade obtained during his studies and the evaluation of merits of his curriculum.

Daniel joined BCAM in September 2016 as a PhD student within BCAM’s research group in Linear and Non-Linear Waves, after obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of the Basque Country (2015) and a Master's degree in Mathematics and Applications (2016) from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He is currently preparing his doctoral thesis, supported by a Spain's Ministry of Education FPU grant in the 2015 call (grant no. FPU15/03078), on the interaction between the Talbot effect and the Riemann’s non-differentiable function under the supervision of Professor Luis Vega.

Asked what this achievement means for him, Daniel says he is very happy because it means "recognition for the work done. He is aware that all participants have enough merit to win these awards because all of them have “impressive academic records” so having won the first prize is something of which he feels "surprised and very proud".
