Luz Roncal, Ikerbasque Research Associate at BCAM, is the new President of the International Relations Commission of the RSME

Her research is developed in the field of Partial Differential Equation Analysis and Harmonic Analysis, with relevant contributions of international reference. With a PhD in Mathematics from the Universidad de La Rioja, Luz Roncal has research experience at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wroclaw (Poland), the Karlstad University (Sweden), the University of Helsinki (Finland), the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (Germany) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore (India).

After receiving a Leonardo Fellowship from the BBVA Foundation (2017), she has been a Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow and is now an Ikerbasque Research Associate at the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics.

Luz Roncal has also received the Award to Young Scientific Female Talent in 2019, by @Fundación de la Academia de Ciencias de España (FRACE) and Mastercard and was the winner of the contest of scientific essays Ciudad de Oviedo "Las matemáticas de los premiados Princesa de Asturias 2020".

Relations with international institutions, particularly with mathematical societies in other countries, and international action represent a fundamental part of the RSME's activities. Among the objectives to be achieved are to provide greater international visibility of the events organized by the Society and the Spanish mathematical community in general, and to serve as a meeting point for Spanish mathematicians abroad.

The main tasks of the International Relations Committee are: 

- Elaboration and maintenance of an updated database of Spanish mathematicians abroad. Promotion of activities in which the Spanish mathematical community working abroad can be actively involved. 

- Review and possible updating of reciprocity agreements with the Societies of other countries, and promotion of these agreements among our members, trying to increase Spanish participation in international societies (EMS, AMS).

- Promote the fluid exchange of information with other societies. To disseminate regularly the important news of the RSME among the other societies and, reciprocally, to include in our media (Newsletter, web page) on a frequent basis important news from other societies, particularly those with which the RSME has agreements or joint activities. 

- To promote the presentation of session proposals at international congresses, such as the ICM.
