BCAM launches its working group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence

• It is made up of researchers from the center, the University of the Basque Country and Ikerbasque and its main objective will be to generate knowledge in artificial intelligence and its applications to Mathematics

The working group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence of the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM has already started working. This group made up of more than 20 researchers from BCAM, Ikerbasque and the University of the Basque Country will carry out various projects in this field with the support of the Basque Government.

Its main objective will be to generate knowledge in artificial intelligence and to apply innovative techniques to generate knowledge in other areas of Mathematics. To this end, the group aims to collaborate with other research centres or institutions such as Tecnalia (with whom it already has a Joint Research Lab in Data Science), Vicomtech, Ikerlan, Biocruces or CICEnergigune.

BCAM Maths & Artificial Intelligence strategy is aligned with the Basque Specialization Strategy, so the projects of this group will be mainly related to the energy sector, biosciences and advanced manufacturing. These include a wide variety of projects, from those that will seek to improve clinical prediction through artificial intelligence techniques, improving emergency healthcare system, early Alzheimer disease infections, resistance to anti-cancer therapy, predictive modeling of microbiome and human metabolism, as well as other projects aimed at improving the efficiency of energy management by predicting energy consumption in the new scenario of the electric vehicle or simulating ion batteries. In the context of this initiative, BCAM also aims to collaborate with international excellence institutions such as UCLA, INRIA, Berkley Labs or research collaborators of the Alan Turing Institute.
