BCAM will be part of the Science by Women program of the Women for Africa Foundation

• Thanks to the collaboration agreement signed between the two institutions, an African woman researcher will receive a scholarship to work for 6 months in the center 

The scientific director of the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM, José Antonio Lozano, and the president of the Women for Africa Foundation (FMxA), Mª Teresa Fernández de la Vega, signed a collaboration agreement today to formalise the centre's participation in the Science by Women programme.

The main objective of this initiative of the foundation is to promote the leadership of African women in scientific research and technology transfer, to foster the capacity of research centers in their countries of origin. To this end, FMxA offers women researchers with more than 3 years of doctoral experience the possibility of working for 6 months in a Spanish center of excellence.

Thanks to the agreement signed, BCAM will host an African woman scientist in the 6^th edition of the programme, in which other Basque research centres also participate. Other institutions such as the Provincial Councils of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa also collaborate in the initiative. The director of the Women for Africa Foundation, Marta Villa; the project manager of the Science by Women programme, Anna Fumarola; the general manager of BCAM, Lorea Gómez; and the person responsible for the Severo Ochoa accreditation in the center, Professor Luis Vega, were also present at the signing ceremony.

This activity is part of BCAM's equality plan, which seeks to promote equal opportunities between men and women in the field of research, as well as to make the work of women scientists visible.
