Prof. Luis Vega takes possession of his place as Academician of the RAC

The position he has obtained is in the Exact Sciences section

Professor Luis Vega, researcher at the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM and professor at the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibersitatea (UPV/EHU), has taken up his seat as a Full Member of the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Spain (RAC).

In the ceremony of possession, held at the headquarters of the RAC, Prof. Vega read his speech on "Fourier Analysis and differential equations, new challenges" with a response from Prof. Juan Luis Vázquez Suárez.

Now, as a Full Academician, his job is to contribute to the work of the Academy.

 

About Prof. Luis Vega

Luis Vega has been Professor of Mathematics at the UPV/EHU since 1995 and has been a visiting professor at several international universities. Scientific Director of BCAM from 2014 to 2019, he is currently the Principal Investigator of the Severo Ochoa accreditation granted to the centre. He has been vice-president of the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society (RSME) and member of the Spanish Society of Applied Mathematics (SEMA), and is currently Officer of the International Council of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM). He is also a member of the European Academy of Sciences.

In his extensive career, Vega has been awarded for his research work on several occasions: in 2012 he received the Euskadi Research Award and Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (Inagural Class), and in 2015 he received the Blaise Pascal Medal in mathematics.

He also leads the HADE project (Harmonic Analysis and Differential Equations: new challenges) funded by the European Research Counci.
