BCAM collaborates once again with the statistics competition “Incubator of surveys and experiments”

Researchers from the center participate as judges in the competition, whose aim is to bring statistics closer to young non-university students

Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM collaborates in the organisation of the "Incubator of surveys and experiments" competition organised by the Department of Mathematics of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) with the collaboration of the Basque Institute of Statistics (Eustat). The competition is aimed at students of Secundary School, Baccalaureate and Intermediate Level Training Cycles from Basque schools.

The prizes were awarded on 16 and 17 June and these have been the winners:

  • Category 1st and 2nd of Secondary School: Aixerrota BHI (Bizkaia)
  • Category 3rd and 4th of Secondary School: Murgia BHI (Bizkaia)
  • High School and Formative Cycles Category: Lycée Français de Bilbao (Bizkaia)

As in previous editions, the jury was made up of members of BCAM's Applied Statistics group, including Dae-Jin Lee and members of his group.

The aim of this competition is to promote the teaching and learning of Statistics, Probability and Operations Research at non-university educational levels, as well as to broaden students' knowledge and skills in this field. The aim is also to disseminate the importance and usefulness of Statistics in real life and as a fundamental tool in practically all sciences.
