Bilbao will host the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML/PKDD) in 2021

  • BCAM and the UPV/EHU will organize the main European conference in this field of research which will be held at the Euskalduna Palace and at Bizkaia Aretoa from 13-17 September

The 2021 edition of the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML/PKDD) will take place in Bilbao from 13 to 17 September. The conference is the main academic event in the field of Machine Learning and Data Mining in Europe, and has already had more than 20 successful editions. In 2021 it will be organized by the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics - BCAM and the University of the Basque Country, after their proposal was selected by the steering committee among several international applications.

The conference will be chaired by the scientific director of BCAM, Jose A. Lozano, and the program committee will be led by internationally recognized experts in the field such as the collaborator of the Vodafone Institute for Society and Communication, Nuria Oliver; Fernando Perez-Cruz of the Swiss Data Science Center, Stefan Kramer of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz or Jesse Read of the French engineering school École Polytecnique.

More than 600 people are expected to attend the five-day conference, making the Basque Country a reference point in the field of Artificial Intelligence at an international level. The event will feature a series of lectures and talks by outstanding researchers and an extensive program of workshops and tutorials in which the latest advances and challenges in this area of research will be shared.

The ECML/PKDD joins the list of important scientific events that will be organized by BCAM in the coming years, among which are the Conference on Mathematical Aspects of the Material Sciences - SIAM MS20 (12-18 May 2020) and the 35th International Congress on Statistical Modelling - IWSM 2020 (19-24 July 2020). The center contributes to the positioning of Bilbao as a university city, epicenter of data science and an ideal place for the exchange of knowledge, making the city the host of some of the most relevant scientific events at European level.
